bb is an open-source, agentic IDE designed to orchestrate and programmatically control AI coding agents like Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, and OpenCode. Unlike static development environments, bb can customize and extend itself directly via prompt commands—allowing developers to request new UI tools, task trackers, or custom agent skills on the fly. Work in bb is organized into live-steerable threads (standard workers or manager orchestrators) that can optionally execute in isolated Git worktrees, allowing multiple agents to work concurrently on different branches without stepping on each other. Built on a local-first, SQLite-backed architecture, bb provides full parity across its desktop Electron application, web interface, CLI, and HTTP API. Every user action in the interface can also be triggered by scripts or other agents. Additionally, bb utilizes developers' existing provider CLI credentials without adding any middleman subscription fees or billing layers.
