Prompt Golf turns prompt engineering into a competitive, open-source puzzle game. Played across five distinct rounds, players are challenged to coax an out-of-the-box LLM (powered by OpenAI / Azure) into outputting an exact target word or phrase while adhering to strict constraint rules, such as character limits or banned input words. Every character typed and message sent adds to your score ('strokes'), rewarding clever, concise, and highly effective prompting strategies. Players can track their performance on a live leaderboard, replay full courses, challenge friends, submit round ideas, and review transcripts of completed rounds via an anti-cheat system. Prompt Golf is built as a portable PHP and SQLite application designed for easy self-hosting.
