About session-indexer

What the tool does and who it's for

session-indexer is an open-source tool designed for per-project semantic search over your personal Claude Code session history. It indexes JSONL transcripts into a local per-project SQLite database (.claude/sessions.db), retrieves relevant project context using bge-m3 embeddings via Ollama, and features an automatic FTS5 BM25 fallback when embeddings are unavailable. Operating locally on a single machine, session-indexer auto-injects relevant past context at session start via hook integration, enabling single developers to quickly recall previous project decisions and discussions across past sessions.

Key capabilities

Per-project JSONL transcript indexing into local SQLite databases
Semantic retrieval using bge-m3 embeddings powered by Ollama
Automatic full-text search fallback using SQLite FTS5 BM25
Automatic context auto-injection at session start using hooks
Manual CLI search and slash command (/recall) support inside Claude Code
Local, single-developer architecture with zero cloud or shared backend dependencies
